This year’s edition of the IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship begins today, and runs through to January 5. It is being held in Heinola and Vierumäki, Finland.
There will be no surprises here. The usual suspects— Canada and the United States— will be the top two spots. Since they are playing in front of a home crowd, it’s possible that Finland might use that as a boost to win bronze. The other European teams of Sweden, Germany, and the Czech Republic will also make the quarterfinals, therefore finishing in the next three positions (in some order). I think that Russia will once again win the relegation round and finish seventh, giving last year’s Cinderella team its midnight.
