Ignorance–only to be abstained from

Two Democrats, Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey and Representative Barbara Lee of California have introduced a bill that would permanently cut off funding streams for the disaster known as ignorance I mean abstinence–only sex education (hat tip). As the United States midterm elections are imminent, I’m doubtful this law will actually get passed. But nevertheless, it is the right move. Abstinence–only has done nothing but cause unsafe sex, increase the teen pregnancy rate, and deprive young people of the knowledge they have every right to know.

Florida court upholds striking down of LGBT adoption ban

A Florida court has upheld an earlier decision from 2008 that struck down that state’s law banning adoption by same–sex couples (hat tip).

This is the correct decision. It benefits children because they can now have real parents. Families headed by same–sex couples are more democratic (cite, source in Spanish). Same–sex couples are just as good at parenting as different–sex couples (cite, cite, cite, cite, cite, cite). With all these studies in hand, ignorance is no longer an excuse. Only a cold, callous, stone–hearted bigot could continue to oppose this law, therefore preferring children to be in foster care or orphanages rather than with loving, capable parents.

Wingnut family values

Wingnut, young–Earth creationist, Palinist, anti–masturbation crusader, tea party queen, and future Delaware senate election loser Christine O’Donnell is an opponent of LGBT rights.

Juxtapose this with the fact that apparently, her sister, Jennie, is a lesbian.

This is the exact reason why the “family values” crowd is so hollow. Why would anyone want to get their family values from the government, much less from someone who goes against the rights of her own sister?

How the GOP wants to change the US constitution

The United States Republican Party has suggested up to twelve different ways to amend the US Constitution. They range from downright loopy to unnecessary, to done wrong. To be truthful, I actually agree with the intent behind one of them. They, in order and with commentary, are after the jump.
