Yet another study has shown that the children of same–sex couples are “statistically indistinguishable” from those of different–sex couples (hat tip). On measures that were important, such as self–esteem, social skills, and academic achievement, the children of same–sex couples were identical to those of different–sex couples.
This is yet another in the long series of studies showing that same–sex couples are as good as different–sex couples at parenting. unfortunately, I doubt those who let bigotry and homophobia get in the way of the welfare of children will be so much as influenced by this report.
A new report from the Guttmacher Institute has shown that the teenage pregnancy and abortion rate in the United States started going up in 2006. This reversed a steady decline that had been going on for several years.
The teen pregnancy rate rose 3% in 2006,while the teen birth and abortion rates rose 4% and 1%, respectively. Put in percentage terms, in 2006 in the United States, about 7% of teenage girls became pregnant.
The cause of this disturbing rise in teen pregnancy? To what I am sure will be to absolutely no one’s surprise, the increase is caused by abstinence–only sex education Abstinence–only became extremely popular during the Bush administration. Abstinence–only sex education classes are legally forbidden from discussing contraception, except to mention failure rates.
This study is yet more evidence that abstinence–only sex education is about as effective as “just don’t shoot” gun safety education.
Anonymous parent who made this ridiculous complaint: it’s a fucking dictionary, not a how–to manual. You does not need to be a linguist to realize that the definition of an act is not the same thing as instructions about how to do an act. For example, telling someone what driving is (operating an automobile) is not the same thing as telling them how to drive (too long to put here).
On the other hand, perhaps the school should ban other “obscene” books. One such book would be the Bible, from whose Song of Solomon God is left out, while still finding room to have the whole book be a love poem that contains explicit eroticism. After all, if someone is absolutely unable to talk to their kid(s) about something sexual in a dictionary, they can’t possibly be able to do the same thing to their kid(s) when something sexual comes up in the Bible, right?
Trust women means treating women like people.
Some people don’t trust women. Those people continue to oppose free and easy access to contraception. Why? Because they don’t trust women with having reproductive rights.
Those same people continue to insist that prescriptions are needed for, and that limits be placed on the any woman can have of, the birth control pill, even though medical professionals believe that such is not necessary (cite). Why? Because those people have such a profound mistrust of women that they construct a society where women need permission to have sex.
Those same people support the right to abuse their daughters by denying them the birth control they have the legal right to use. They also want to ignorance by pushing abstinence–only sex. Why? Because they mistrust women so much that they want to control others, and would rather that children get STDs and unintended pregnancies rather than have sex.
Those same people so other things that also show that they distrust women.
I am against the people above and the misogyny they stand for because I trust women. Why? Because women are people.
The American Dialect Society has chosen its words of the year and word of the decade.
Also, by the looks of it, he is basically a parasite who lived off his wives. He has accumulated debts and hasn’t paid child support. Good reasons for him to be made to pay what he owes and to stay divorced11.
Also, a major FAIL for the BBC focusing on this serial divorcer and how he does not have gray hair, as opposed to, you know, the women and child he left.
